What Curriculum is offered?

GEMS United School (GUS) offers an enriched American curriculum with an international perspective for students in KG1 through grade 12, culminating in an American High School Diploma with Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  The curriculum is based on Common Core standards and best practice research.

What are the school timings?

School runs from Sunday – Thursday.  The normal school day will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Grade 1 to 12.  The school day ends daily at 2:30p.m. for KG1 and KG2 students.  Tuesday is an early release day of 2:30p.m. for all students.

Who are the teachers?

All teachers are highly qualified and are MOE approved. Only experienced educators of the highest quality are employed. They are all visionary and professional and have high expectations of themselves and their students. Teachers at GUS bring a wide variety of experiences and expertise teaching the American Curriculum.  Full teacher biographies and contact information are available on the school website.

Will there be specialist teachers?

The school will have specialist teachers in Music, PE, Art, Spanish, French, ICT, Arabic, Islamic, and Student Support Teams which include GUS School Counselors, English Language Learner Support teachers and Learning Support teachers.

Will there be teaching assistants?

There is a full time Teaching Assistant for all classes (KG – grade 3) and a full time TA shared between classes Grade 4-5.

Is there school transport?

GEMS United School has outsourced the school transport service to School Transport Services LLC (STS).  STS operates the bus fleet maintaining exceptional safety standards and strictly following the specifications and regulations laid down by the Road Transport Authority of Dubai.  All buses are fitted with Video Surveillance System, Global Positioning Systems and scanners for the purposes of student attendance confirmation and safety. Are there any After School Activities?

Yes, After School Activities at GUS (ASAs) are comprised of the following types:

Teacher Led ASA Clubs at GUS:

GUS runs teacher clubs for KG1 – Grade 12.  These clubs are free of charge and run for 12 week sessions 3 x per year.  Clubs run for one hour straight after school on Sunday, Monday and Wednesdays.

Students will have the opportunity to sign-up for a variety of activities including sport based / academic based / artistic based and technology based activities. 

These activities are free of charge.  There are normally no pre-requisites for entry and students may join while spaces are available.  Opportunities for clubs and the sign-up process is emailed to parents in advance.

Competitive Sporting Teams at GUS:

In addition to our Techer Led ASA clubs GUS runs competitive sporting teams including:

  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Track and Field
  • Swimming

Students need to attend the try outs in order to sucessfully gain a a place for the competition teams (merit based).  Seasons are 8-10 weeks long with 3 seasons in the year.

September/October-December / December-March / March-May

Paid After School Activities at GUS:

Outside service providers also offer ASAs after school at GUS.   Parents sign-up and pay the service provider directly for the following activities:

  • Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Clay
  • Junior Fitness
  • Karate
  • Music and individual instrument tuition

Additionally:  Sports City is located right next door to GUS and also offers a large number of after school activities to our students

What kind of Technology will be used at the school?

All classrooms are equipped with Promethean smart boards, iPads and we have a dedicated computer lab. All students in Grade 6 – 12 are required to bring a laptop each day.  (Bring Your Own Laptop policy)

Will there be any provisions for Special Needs Education?

There will be limited support for Learning Support at an additional cost

Do I have to buy School Books?

The cost of school books is a part of the Tuition fee.

Where can I get the school uniform?

Zaks Uniform will be our uniform provider. Information can be found on their website www.zaks.com. All required items are listed for the relevant times of year, by gender. Store timings, location maps, and the uniform guide are available on the website.

Is there security set up at the school?

Security of students at all GEMS schools is of utmost importance, we have security guards and security procedures in place at all of our schools.  All parents will be issued with a GUS badge which should be worn at all times when visiting the GUS campus.

Will there be cafeteria at the school?

A Cafeteria is planned for coming years. In the interim, we will have a lunch kiosk set up to provide cold lunches and snacks.  In addition students in KG to Grade 5 can pre-order a lunch box which will be delivered freshly to their classroom.

Will siblings get priority at GUS?

Yes, siblings will have priority. If the school is full, they will be given priority on the waiting list.

Will GUS utilize DSCs Sports Facilities?

Yes, we have an extensive sport (P.E.) program developed to make full use of the great sports facilities.
